New Links from Laura re: Rachel. 9.8.09

Britain’s Channel 4 documentary The Killing Zone  – watch online for free

First link I found re: Colin’s suicide… just mentions it in passing. No obituaries found but several websites make reference to his having killed himself in 2004, one website attributing it to his being “haunted by Rachel’s death and his relationship with her,” which may or may not be accurate.

Let’s Talk About- photos from the production

February 1, 2009

On Janurary 17th, 2009 Busted Space opened their first show, Let’s Talk About- to a crowd of (an unexpected but highly welcomed!) 200+ people! The show ran very smoothly and the audience were very into it- we heard great responses!

Here are some great photos from the performance. A HUGE thank you to our photographers Justin and Christopher Swader!

365 plays/ 365 days

November 3, 2008

A big THANK YOU to everyone involved. Especially to the actors and executive board that organized everything in my absence.

If you missed out, talk to people who were in it or saw it; it was a fun time!

We’re thinking about doing another round of “365″ pieces later in the year because it was so enjoyable.

Thanks everyone! Check out for updates and news regarding “Let’s Talk About-”  It’s going to be a BLAST!

BUSTED SPACE THEATRE COMPANY

So here’s the deal:

Each Semester

Main Show: This show will have one of the exec members somehow, directly involved and will be our PRIMARY theatrical effort for the semester. Our production value will be a bit more than studio shows.

o    Studio Show #1:  Each semester we’ll be doing two smaller shows (in terms of production value) along with the Main show. These shows are not less important, just more about the theatrical experience. This will be an actor-drive show that won’t require much spectacle.

o    Studio Show #2: Same deal as above. These three shows will be spanned out over the semester so Busted Space will be doing three projects a semester.

1 Main show each semester  + 2 studio shows a semester = 6 projects a year. Woo.

A NOTE ABOUT THE PROJECTS

This theatre company is going to thrive based on YOUR participation (Yes you!) so what we’re going to need it a concerted effort on your end to actively propose show ideas. We all have a million ideas as to shows and project we want to see done. Here’s your chance. Propose them.

Keeping in mind that we’re a student group (read: poor and really awesome by doing really interesting projects that we want people to experience. ) we’ve decided that one show a semester is going to be a totally free show.

Also, to keep things fresh and exciting and wanting to provide as many opportunities for as many people as possible, it’s also been decided that you may NOT do the same “job” twice in one year. That means no directing two shows, no acting in two shows, no serving as stage manager for two shows…etc. You get the point.

If you’re keeping track that means: No hogging projects, one original show and one free show a semester. Woo.

What we’re looking for….

Each year, we’ve decided that at least one main show must be an original work. This doesn’t limit our company’s projects to one original work a year; it just mandates that one of the main shows will be an original piece. So get writing! ☺

That being said, we are not limited to plays. We’re interested in all forms of theatrical experiences. Movement pieces, adaptations, political pieces, solo-shows, avant-garde experiments…etc are encouraged.

Here’s a formula of what’s going to happen:

1.    You submit a project ideas to the Exec board (preferably with a director in mind, if not no biggie)
i.    Awesome! We’ve received eleven idea submissions!

2.    The Exec board will take a look and narrow it down to a smaller number of choices
i.    Oooh, out of the eleven project submissions, these eight are the most interesting proposals. Let’s stick with these eight.

3.    At a general meeting, we will present the remaining ideas for a vote.
i.    These eight ideas are the most interesting. They are new plays by so and so and a movement piece involving circus clowns and penguins.

4.    As a COLLECTIVE GROUP, we will vote at the general meeting on what projects to undertake. The six projects with majority votes will move on to be our Busted Space Theatre Company’s annual season.
i.    Let’s vote. Voting happens ok; great- these six projects received the most votes. Our Busted Space season is…(the six projects)

Once this is decided, the hardest part, we’ll further meet to discuss dates for auditions, who’s doing what on each project, where it’s going to be, when it’s going to be…etc. It will be awesome.

SOME OTHER THINGS; FOOD FOR THOUGHT

•    We are not the theatre department. What that means is we do not have to maintain the “educational” bubble. That being said, we are NOT going to make sure everyone gets a chance to act in every show or everyone gets a chance to direct a show. There will undoubtedly be SOME way for you to be involved, it just may not be a leading role in every show or directing our main project. In short: we will run this like a theatre company in a city. Whoever is the best suited to play a role or direct a show will be the one appointed.  We’re all mature and will make mature decisions. That’s the way great theatre is made.

•    All directors will be asked to talk to the exec board about the project they are planning to undertake. While we want to have a lot of freedom exploring interesting and dynamic theatrical opportunities, we also want to know what’s going on and ensure that we are producing quality projects. THIS IS NOT TO FRIGHTEN YOU; IF YOU ARE REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT A PROJECT, YOU SHOULD WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT WITH US! ☺

•    Here are some links that we recommend checking out:

o    http://www.playscripts.com/      This is a great site to check out new plays. It offers a synopsis as well as (in the top right hand corner) a chance to read a sample of the play- Hint: it’s usually the whole play up until the final scene, which they leave off. This will give you a good idea of what the plays about…etc.
o    http://www.dramatists.com/        Another great site with new plays. A lot of the “cutting-edge” scripts are here (August: Osage County, Dog Sees God, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Pillowman….etc). What I do (I know, I’m a huge dork) is I check out the synopsis of new plays that may sound interesting and then go online to try and find them at a library or just Interlibrary Loan them.
o    INTERLIBRARY LOAN. It’s awesome. Go to BSU’s homepage; check out the Library link and it’s pretty self-explanatory. You literally can get any play delivered to BSU for free. It’s too amazing.

Awesome. Let’s make this company a really great, dynamic force on campus. If anyone can do it, we can.

Thanks guys,
Busted Space Exec.
